It felt like I had been plunged right into a nightmare that I could not wake up from. Everything seemed to stop—the world around me faded into a dull hum, and all I could focus on was him.
“Mark,” I whispered to myself as tears freely fell from my eyes. “Mark!” I screamed then, rushing over to him, dropping to my knees beside his body. My hands trembled as I reached out, hoping—praying—that he was still alive.
