Chapter 37. I'm Leaving

I had a backpack full of my clothes on my back and a suitcase that I was rolling outside. My heart felt so heavy and tears continuously flowed from my eyes. I did not know what to do but I did know that I did not want to be under this roof.

Heading for the front door, I could hear that it was stroming outside. The rain was even heavier, the flashes of lightning brighter and the thunderclaps even stronger. But as I said, I just wanted to get out of here.

As soon as I held the doorknob, my father stopped me. “Lisa, you can come and sleep in my room tonight. I know it’s a guest room and not technically mine but you gave it to me. You can come to sleep with me tonight and I promise you that I won't let Mark come anywhere near you.”

I took my hand off the doorknob and turned to him. “Dad, I’m sorry but I can’t listen to you.” I smiled sadly.

“Why?” he walked closer to me and I could see Mark lingering behind, a look of regret on his face.
