Chapter 13
DAHLIA
The sound of the door opening and closing brings me out of sleep as I flutter my eyes open, rubbing it clear from the haze of the bright morning sun.
“You must have been tired,” a familiar voice shifts through the initial silence, and I push the blankets off my body to sit up from the bed.
“Morning,” I greet.
“Morning. Coffee?”
“No, I’m good. You’re up early,” I complain, mostly from the annoyance of being woken up before I was ready.
“Early? Dahlia, it’s almost ten.”
At the sound of the number, I widen my eyes, adrenaline shooting through me as I look for and find my phone. Seeing the bold numbers staring me in the face, I cuss under my breath.
“I know,” she says as she pulls more laundry from her closet. “I didn’t want to wake you. I’ve been seeing the news. You must be exhausted from being in jail since Thursday.”
I weave my fingers through my bed hair and rest my back against the bedhead. “Yeah, I am tired. Thanks.”
