My office was blissfully quiet—finally. After the circus that was this morning, with the meeting and the subtle (okay, maybe not so subtle) public dragging of Loren, I needed a moment. Just one. I leaned back in my chair, loosened the top button of my shirt, and let my eyes close for exactly ten seconds.
Ten peaceful seconds of thinking about Dahlia.
Then, the door swung open.
No knock.
I didn’t even need to look up to know who it was.
“Loren,” I said, voice clipped, opening my eyes and fixing her with a look. “Did you forget what I said less than an hour ago?”
She blinked at me, feigning innocence. “About...?”
I arched a brow.
“Oh. That.” She gave a breathy laugh, as if walking into my office uninvited wasn’t a calculated move. “Sorry. Old habits.”
I didn’t respond, just stared at her until the smile dropped from her face.
“Wait, does that really count with me?”
“No exception.” I said firmly.
