The next thirty-something hours sped past in a blur. Suddenly, after what felt like a night, we had to resume lectures again. That still didn’t change the air in St. Avenston. Everybody and everything that could talk talked, and the main topic was apparent. The murder of Amelia Rosalés by Donovan Miner. If only they knew how wrong they were.
I spent the entire impromptu break thinking of a way to safely investigate the killing myself. I fantasized about myself as a detective, moving around, asking questions, figuring out clues, and saving the day, maybe getting Donovan’s heart in the process. As I entered the general school hall, I pondered how to ask for clues. True, my own testimony was weak.
