Chapter 12
My eyes left a distressed Verity and trailed to Don, who was watching her as well but with a spark of anger in his icy orbs. He had the right to be upset, but at the same time, he didn’t. If he had left it all alone, none of these doubts and prerogatives would be out in the first place. He opened a can of worms that I was admittedly too cowardly to even think about, so the least he could do for all of us was to stay clear-headed.
“I need air.”
“Can you please explain what exactly is going on?”
The cousins spoke at the same time, and Verity didn’t waste any more time in shooting up from her seat and beelining for the door, opening it, and waiting.
“Ver...”
“Outside. We’ll talk about it outside where I don’t feel so sick and claustrophobic,” Verity iterated, her mask of indifference shadowing the dejection eating her up.
