Chapter 14
“Mr. Fremund.”
His eyes turned sorrowful, and he crouched down to my level and began feeling me over. I didn’t even bother to stop my crying; he was like a father to me, after all, and the fact that he came just in time to spare me from whatever painful deeds Douglas had in store for me made me so overwhelmed.
“It’s okay, Asher,” he comforted as he patted my head, “He’s gone out like a light, but a guy like him doesn’t stay that way for long. We have to leave now.”
I forced my sobbing to dampen and swallowed the last of my tears before nodding up at him and allowing him to pull me up. He immediately went over to Verity and placed his fingers on her neck to check her pulse.
“She’s stable,” he whispered before moving over to Don and doing the same thing.
He got up and motioned to the both of them, “We have to get them out of here and try to revive them before getting to a hospital.”
