Chapter 20
The time was well on its way past eight, and we were freewheeling to Mr. Fremund’s place: me, Sam, Sergio, and James.
Placing my head on the window, I stared outside at the clear, bright morning sky with wisps of fluffy white clouds decorating it and wondered how a shitty night could give way to such a delightful-looking day. The city was already awake, and everyone went about their various businesses. I watched them hurry to work, walk their dogs, catch the last bus to school, and open their stores, all perfectly oblivious to the looming danger in their midst.
Now that I thought about it, Mr. Fremund had said that notable people, as well as the ones we didn’t expect, were members of the cult, so I regarded the populace moving about through the black-tinted lens of suspicion, knowing fully well that our enemies were among the throng.
In the car, Sergio and Sam were talking up a storm as they explained everything to a subdued James.
