Chapter 18
“Tonight was out of this world, man, and not in the normal way,” Sergio gushed, and I made a sound of agreement as I kicked up a stream of heavily disinfected water and wiggled my toes.
“But what if the attorney is actually a pathological liar and is just...I don’t know, sort of fattening us up for the feast?” His baritone voice took up a hint of distrust and worry, and I imagined his thick eyebrows pulled in together and his mouth tilted downwards.
He paused for the first time since he called and waited for me to input, and I sighed as I kicked up another stream of water.
“Then we’ll kill him,” I said simply.
The silence from the other end was abrupt and suggested he wasn’t expecting that answer. I imagined his eyebrows raised almost into his hairline and his mouth hanging open a few milli inches.
I nearly laughed.
