The beginnings of negative premonition made their way from the base of my spine to spread all over my skin. My flesh puckered with goosebumps, and my scalp began tingling. If Verity had been gone for over an hour and everyone was having disparities over where she was, then Jennifer was right; something was terribly wrong.
Sergio once again looked like he was going to pass out with his ashy pallor and trembling bottom lip, and he said, “But we don’t have to think she’s in danger, right? I mean, she runs this place...she could be anywhere around.”
Denial. I was familiar with its almost hypertensive feel and the accompanying need to believe anything except what you were faced with. But as much as I didn’t want to believe Verity was in danger, that was the situation building up. And we needed to cut it short.
