Chapter 21
The house was clinically spotless like it was before, and the interior decor was as classy as ever. The opening corridor that led to the sitting room seemed longer than I last remembered. But that was probably because I couldn’t wait to see Don and Verity.
But wait; if they were in recovery, they’d be in the rooms upstairs. I stopped in my tracks and turned to face Mr. Fremund to ask where they were, only to see him talking quietly to a scowling James and a blank-faced Sam.
“I’m sorry that the situation warranted you finding out, Sam. And James...well, you were obviously involved in the solving of Amelia Rosalés’ case, and I’m truly sorry that this is your reward.”
Sergio made an impatient sound in his throat and waited for the line of speech to finish before clapping his hands and whistling, “Yo! Hey...can we see our friends and family first before all this?” he waved his hands dramatically in their direction, “Attorney, they’re not really mad at you...”
