Chapter 56

After what happened, Scarlet covered herself with a blanket as he moved away from her and retrieved his clothes from the floor. She couldn't bring herself to watch him as he dressed, turning her gaze to the opposite wall instead. Only after she heard the sound of the door closing did she get up from the bed and proceed to clean herself in the bathroom. To her surprise, she found him lingering outside her bedroom when she emerged.

"Oh goodness, why are you still here?" she exclaimed.

"I was worried you will hate me for what happened," he replied.

"You have nothing to worry about," she reassured him, attempting to lighten the mood. Ignoring his brooding look, she walked past him.

"Doesn't it mean anything to you?" he asked.

"What do you mean?" his question confused her.

"About what happened earlier-"

"Stop right there. I don't want to hear what you're about to say," she hurried to the bathroom, wondering how he intended to complete his sentence.
