(Ava’s POV)

"What. Is. Going. On. Here?" he says again, emphasizing on each word. I swallow and find my voice, quickly bringing him up to speed.

"I'm sorry Miss, you'll have to– Vanessa?"

I watch in shock as Karen blossoms, a smile I didn't even know was possible to be made by her appearing on her face. "Dilly! I was wondering how long it would take for you to recognize me!" She steps forward and pulls him into a hug, squeezing too tightly, in my opinion. And why did her voice get so high pitched all of a sudden?

He hugs her back, a smile on his face.
