The clinical atmosphere enveloped me as I was settled into a pristine room, the sterile scent lingering in the air. Their soothing words and gentle touch sought to alleviate my distress, to unravel the mystery behind my sudden illness.
What could be causing this sudden bout of illness? Was it something I ate? Or could it be a more profound underlying condition, one that had remained hidden until now?
As I gradually regained my strength and the unsettling sensation subsided, the nurse who assisted me earlier immediately came to my side.
“Is there something wrong with me?” I asked.
“We still have to wait for the lab results, Miss. When was your last period?”
When she asked me that question, I knew she had a hunch about my real condition. I was supposed to lie about it but would it be possible to lie to a medical professional? When she explained they needed to examine my blood and urine samples, I knew I was in big trouble.
