Chapter 5
“Exactly. I'm your father, so let's go,” Roger insisted, ignoring my protests. “Is something wrong, Chloe? Why are you so nervous about the exam? It's a normal thing for females in our pack.”
“I'm not nervous, father. I'm just worried. What if I can't find my mate?” I made up a story, and this time he seemed convinced. He snorted but didn't say anything.
“As my daughter, you don't need to worry about that, darling. Come on!” he said, and I reluctantly followed him. Outside, I admired the beauty of our home. Roger was a good provider and a caring father, despite being strict at times.
“Why are you taking so long, Chloe? They're waiting for us,” he reminded me to hurry up, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
Honestly, I wanted to skip the examination, but it would embarrass my father and put my position at risk. “Um, can we do it another time? I don't feel well today, Father.”
“In that case, you have even more reason to see the doctor. They can prescribe something for you,” he replied.
My plan backfired, and I couldn't come up with another excuse without arousing suspicion. So, I took a deep breath and hoped everything would be alright. If the doctor asked me uncomfortable questions, I might just say that I enjoyed spending time alone. It would be embarrassing, but better than the alternative!
“Hurry up, please!” Roger urged me.
“Coming, Father,” I replied, sprinting to catch up with him. As we walked, he spoke to me as an equal. Sometimes he could be sweet, but I wished he would maintain that demeanor more often. His domineering attitude was annoying, to say the least.
At my age, I was supposed to experience many things that girls my age were doing, but my father wouldn't allow it. If I dared to defy him, punishment awaited. I longed to break free, which might explain why I did something that could ruin my life.
The doctor's office was cozy, and I saw some of my friends there. “See? Their parents didn't come with them,” I informed my father, emphasizing that there were more important things than him being in the doctor's office with me.
“I know, but there's something I need to discuss with the doctor before the exam,” he stated.
His words alarmed me, and I narrowed my eyes at him. “Are you sick, Father?”
He shook his head, but the sadness in his eyes worried me. Then, he forced a smile and replied, “I don't know yet, darling, and that's why I need to speak with her.”
“Okay,” I replied, but despite his reassurances, I couldn't help but worry. What if something was wrong with him? No, it couldn't be! The pack needed him, and I wasn't ready to take over. How could I be ready when I hadn't even shifted into a wolf?
I thought he would go first, but his phone rang, and he asked me to go ahead. Cold shivers ran down my spine, and I bit my lip to hide my nervousness. “Good morning, Doc,” I greeted the person in light blue scrubs and a white coat.
“Good morning, Miss Anderson,” she replied with a smile. “Nervous, aren't you?”
I wanted to deny it, but what if she could tell I was lying? It would be embarrassing, so I nodded and said, “Yes, I am.”
“Well, everyone gets nervous, it's normal. Are you ready?” she asked.
I nodded silently, and she gestured for me to sit in another area. She smiled and told me to relax. After checking my height and weight, she measured my blood pressure. I felt the squeeze of the equipment on my arm, but before I could complain, she was done.
“One twenty over eighty,” she announced.
“Doc?” I asked, confused at first.
“I said you have normal blood pressure.”
“Thank goodness,” I muttered in relief, as I had been worried. Lately, I had been indulging in unhealthy food cravings. Then, she examined my vision, and I had perfect vision. Well, she examined almost every part of my body! Head, eyes, ears, nose, and throat. Everything checked out, and I was relieved when she said I was healthy.
I thought it was over, but then she mentioned the most terrifying part for any young woman. She asked me to remove my underwear and lie down on a bed in the clinic.
“Excuse me?” I asked, thinking I must have misheard her.
“I can't examine you with your underwear on, Miss Anderson.”
“What? You want to examine what? Seriously? I thought the urine test would be enough!” I complained, feeling embarrassed at the thought of spreading my legs in front of the doctor, regardless of her professional status.
“There are other important checks that need to be done, Miss Anderson. It's necessary for a thorough examination. Don't worry, it'll be quick,” she assured me.
I took a deep breath, trying not to cause a scene, and followed her instructions. I reluctantly pulled down my underwear and lay down on the bed. “How long will it take to get the results?”
“It'll be about an hour,” she replied.
As I lay there, legs spread and feeling exposed, worry filled my mind. When I heard the doctor approaching, I closed my eyes. Even though she wore gloves, I could still feel her fingers touching and examining me as if I were a rare specimen.
“Done,” she said after a few minutes.
I quickly got up and reached for my underwear. As I struggled to put it back on, the doctor instructed me to inform one of the women outside. I thanked her and left her office, but her smirk stayed in my mind.
“Have you seen the Alpha?” I asked but they just shook their head.
