Chapter 52

I was preparing the table for lunch when someone knocked on the door. "I'll be right there!" From the kitchen table, I yelled. Pedro rang the doorbell, and I let him in.

"Good morning, how are you today?" He inquired, but responding was pointless given my unkempt hair and wrinkled clothes. "I sincerely apologize for yesterday. I had to be there because something at work came up," he explained.

"It's all right," I reassured him. "Anyway, it's not a big deal; we can still eat dinner later."

I felt bad about lying to Pedro when he asked about Henry. As a result, I simply nodded and remained silent. "Excuse my manners, coffee or tea?"

"Don't be concerned. I just came here to see how you're doing," Pedro explained.
