I watched as she snored, bereft of worries and her problems, as I stroked her face slightly with my fingers.
I placed her away from my lap and gently onto the bed. She sprawled aside, sleeping as I tapped her, smiling broadly.
She didn’t answer but muttered inaudible gibberish and quickly resumed her snores. I pulled up her duvet toward her shoulders and walked away on tiptoes along with the files and letters, not wanting to wake her.
I gently closed the door behind me and marched toward my office in the building, but the fury in me surfaced.
I sat in my chair and dialed the line of the securities.

“Proceed,” I said as our everyday slang of confirming if I was the one in the other line or not.
