Leila’s POV
I whirled around, my heart bucking against my chest. “Luca?” I croaked, staring up into his face.
The scurrying and the noise of the mall surrounded us, yet he didn’t pay attention to anything else around him. He looked into me with an intent to stare continuously, steadily. “Leila.” He said my name as if there was something dangling from it that wasn’t said, yet heavy enough to make the floor a cave inside my stomach.
I retreated backward, out of my comfort zone. “What are you doing here?”
“I know what Dominic did last night,” he said, low but accusing. “I’m not mad at you because of it. I know how he is, Leila, controlling, dominating, he takes advantage of people.”
“Luca, it’s not what you think,” I stammered.
He shook his head, tucking his head closer, his hand reaching to mine. “You don’t need to defend him. You don’t have to stay with him either. Let me take you away from him, Leila. Let’s leave, just me and you, and Micha
