Leila’s POV

Four Months Later

Dominic stepped into the room, holding an envelope in his hand, “Mr. Rossini is throwing a party, and he wants me to be there,” he said, “You are coming along with me.”

I looked down at the envelope and back to him, searching his gaze. “Dominic, you know I’m not comfortable in those kinds of places. Those people—”

He moved a step closer, eyes hard. “It’s time they see who you are. No more hiding in the shadows, Leila. Besides,” he added, “I don’t trust anyone else in my arms for this.”

His words stirred something in my chest, warm and soft. Carefully I schooled my face into a mask of neutrality. “Are you sure you want me there? You’ve never seemed concerned with people’s opinions.”

His fingers danced up the length of my arm, and a wave of warmth washed over me. “Exactly. And I want them to see you, to know you’re not going anywhere.”

I exhaled, shaking my head as I turned away. “All right, but don’
