Chapter 47. A Ray of Hope

Leila’s POV

We have not heard any updates for a few days now. Days of straight sleepless nights, prayer after prayer and constantly worrying at each breath Michael took would be his last.

So, I was there just around the corner from Michael in a small waiting area, with zero distractions except for staring at that familiar and grimy old wooden floor to keep my mind away from bad places. Dominic and Luca were standing in the hallway, talking to one of the doctors. Their faces were somber but their eyes betrayed defeat as I viewed them through the glass window.

Michael’s note just kept going around my head. His cute little handwriting, his childlike view of heaven, and how he wanted us to be happy no matter what happened. As much as I didn’t want it to, all that would go through my mind was how unbearable I thought it was. For me, this note was a classy comment on what is kept between Michael and my relationship, that it’s something I just have to hold on to.
