Chapter 49. A Sliver of Hope
Leila’s POV
“Can we see him now?” I was barely holding back tears as I asked the doctor, hanging on his every word.
The doctor nodded, a small smile mellowing his countenance. “He’s still very frail but you can come see him”
I looked over at Dominic; he gave me a reassuring nod. We all made our way to Michael’s room, and this time Luca was following us as we went. The hallway went on forever, each step heavy with fear and hope. Closer to the door, my hand hovered over the handle.
“Leila, It’s going to be alright,” Dominic whispered, a hand on my back.
“Yeah…” I responded, but it came out dead and hollow. I had to believe him. Still, Michael would look white and vulnerable lying unconscious there, and that might shatter me.
