Chapter 59. The Unspoken Goodbye

Leila’s POV

“Hope you got everything?” Dominic asked almost carelessly but with an edge of seriousness I couldn’t quite touch. He was standing at the car, watching as Michael and I did our last checks to get ready to go from the mansion.

“I think so,” I returned, fidgeting with Michael’s knapsack. “I’m just a little nervous. It’s all so new.”

“You’re going to be just fine,” Dominic said with an assuring smile. “Everything’s ready for your new start.”

Michael was bouncing on his heels, wide-eyed with excitement. “I get to see my new school! It’s going to be awesome, right, Leila?”

I ruffled his hair affectionately. “It will be.” We’re both getting a fresh start.

We spent a second excitedly until Dominic piped up with a gentle nudge. “Let’s get going, we got a little bit of a drive.”
