Chapter 44. Explain
Adeline’s POV
“Oh? Really?” Iris asked.
“Yes. There wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t think about you.” I admitted, still feeling guilty.
“You bitch!”
Her lips twisted, and I thought I heard something, but I didn’t catch it, too low for me to catch.
“You said something?” I asked.
She gave me a smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “Oh no…”
She was still looking at me, still assessing, still eating me up with her eyes, as if she was going to devour me whole.
“I looked for you, Iris,” I said, willing her to believe me.
“I heard you’re now the pack’s Luna,” she said, and just like that, we were standing at the very edge of the conversation I had been trying so hard to avoid.
I cleared my throat. My fingers were fidgeting right beside me.
“I... I can explain, Iris.”
“Explain what? That you’re the pack’s Luna? That you’re Theodore’s wife?”
I breathe seized at her words.
