Iris’s POV
The moment he held me back, I smiled.
I knew Theodore too well—knew every soft edge around him, I knew how to get him.
And if there was one thing I could always count on to draw him back in, it was this—my tears, my trembling voice.
I knew how to catch his emotions.
“No, Theodore… let me go,” I said, my back still turned turned against him as I smiled.
“Iris, this is your home,” he said softly, his hand still firm on my arm.
I turned to face him, trying to blink out tears that weren’t yet real—but they would be.
I would make sure of that. I wanted him to see pain. I wanted him to believe it.
“But I don’t feel like it again,” I whispered, forcing sadness in my tone.
“Why would you?” Lucian said sharply behind him.
