Chapter 143. Unexpected Allies

My heart was doing its best impression of a jackhammer inside my chest.

“WaitKaty, please tell me Noah’s not with you. Like, swear to me he’s not in the car.”

I gripped my phone like it was a lifeline, bracing myself for my brother’s voice to come through on the line.

Katy laughed, the kind of laugh that said I was being ridiculous but also maybe not totally wrong.

“Your brother? No way,” Katy replied, sounding like she was about to burst. “I just grabbed his car because mine’s in the shop. When I saw your location ping, it looked like you were being held hostage in some werewolf villain’s secret lair in the middle of nowhere!”

She barely paused to inhale before launching into full drama mode.

“Tell me you’re okay! These guards out here look like they mix protein powder with raw eggs and scream at mirrors for fun. I tried talking to them and they stared at me like I was a squirrel in heels. They won’t even flinch!”
