After her long bath, Lois changed into one of her old dresses and blow-dried her hair with her brother’s hair dryer. She walked into the dining room and began helping her mother set the table.

“Where are Dad and Percy? I checked his room, and he wasn’t there,” she said to Rebecca.

“They both went out to get some wine. I didn’t realize we were completely out for dinner,” Rebecca replied.

“All right,” she mumbled.

“Hey, are you doing okay?” Rebecca inquired, noticing that her daughter looked rather gloomy.

“No, not really. I just found out Walter Lance is playing a match here soon, and I can’t afford the ticket,” she answered.
