Chapter 12. Worse Than Beasts
When Sarah’s eyes fluttered open, she was surrounded by the same terrifying darkness. She lifted her head just slightly and felt it throb as she glanced around. Spotting the empty shackles sitting in the corner, she was instantly reminded of what went on. Gasping, she scrambled to her feet despite the ache, making a beeline for the stairs without looking back.
This time, there was no one to grab her, no one to stop her escape. But she didn’t question his absence, she just knew she had to get out.
She slammed the basement door aside, breathing hard. Catching her breath, she was ready to make a dash for her room, but the sleek black shoes that entered her line of sight made her pause.
