Chapter 13. Lies
Last time, when she had almost fallen from the stairs, Damon was the one to catch her. This time, however, there were unspoken words written in that gaze of his: ‘this is what you get for betraying me’.
And as she fell backward and to her doom, Damon did the unthinkable…
…he turned and walked away.
There was not a speck of concern, no subtle signs of worry. He did not look back.
At first, she thought Damon Kalesto was just a cruel king who fed on the fear of his subjects. Soon after, she dared to think he wasn’t all bad despite the rumors. Then when she heard he hurt Alexis, she had thought that there was more to him than what was on the surface, perhaps a plausible excuse for his behavior. And now, in this moment, her impression of him had changed yet again.
