Chapter 52. Into the Past (2)
Damon’s POV
“Damn, I actually liked the guy…” Felix slumped against a tree. His fingers loosened on his arrow and he watched it fall then stared down at it in silence. His expression was somber, almost… regretful. For a moment, I thought an explanation would come next, a plea that it was no more than a mistake. But I was a fool.
“Don’t you think…” His head raised slowly and suddenly, it felt as if I was looking at a stranger. “…he would’ve done well as my beta instead of your little lap dog?”
Those eyes that were always full of life had become a soulless black void, and his radiant smile that had warmed my parent’s cold hearts… was now a sinister tug at the end of his lips.
He wasn’t the same man whose feet I knelt at just days before… I knew that and yet, I didn’t want to believe it. I didn’t want to accept whatever this was before my eyes.
