Chapter 5
Joe sat at the dinner table with his mom Martha, his dad Bob, and his younger sister Mary.
Mr. Nelson still wore his sheriff’s uniform. He stood well over 6 feet tall with weary blue eyes and brown hair with spots of gray. He had the wrinkled face of a man, who worked long hours with little thanks. His stomach popped out a bit more than it should, but his arms were lined with more muscle than fat. Even though he spent a lot of time in the sun, his skin was still pale. He pointed to the tacos and asked, “Mary, pass the tacos, please.”
Mrs. Nelson looked softly at him. She had wide brown eyes and short brown hair. She had a darker complexion. “Are you sure about that, Bob?” she asked. “You’ve already had three.”
Joe’s father looked at her and smiled slightly. “I think I’ll be okay, doctor.”
She smiled back. “Let’s just hope you don’t have to pursue any criminals on foo
