Chapter 81. Rainy Rescue

"Seraphina!" Cassian urgently called out. "You're getting wet! Get under the shed! Come!" he shouted.

"No, you come! This is so much fun!" I replied, still jumping around. I was excited, spinning around when he suddenly yelled, "Seraphina-MAYA!"

In an instant, I found myself pulled firmly into someone's chest. I looked up, meeting Cassian's eyes, and then it hit me – he had saved me from being hit by the car. His eyes held worry and pain. Could it have been the pain of losing me...?

We stood there silently, hands entwined. His arms were wrapped around my waist, and my fingers rested on his chest. He gently tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.

Our moment was interrupted by thunder. He reluctantly let go, and I withdrew my hands. Cassian muttered something, too soft for me to hear. We awkwardly put some distance between us.

"...I think we should go," he said, scratching his
