Ousmane’s POV

I picked up my ringing phone and saw Hawa’s number. I recognized it now. I had just gotten home and hadn’t even gotten out of the car. Things had been tense between Zayate and me lately. She kept denying any involvement in the situation, but I suspected otherwise. I was really praying she wasn’t mixed up in this because I was starting to question my choices.

“Hello, Hawa?”

“Good evening, Mr. Haïdara, it’s Mr. Doumbouya.”

“Good evening. Is there a problem?”

“Yes, your wife has been attacked. I’m sending her to the hospital. Can you meet us there?”

“What? Hawa?”

“Yes.”

“My God! How is she?” I felt my pulse quicken.

“Not so good.”

“Is she at least conscious?”

“Yes, she’s conscious.”

“All right, send me the address. I’ll be on my way.”

“Okay, we caught the assailant. He’s at the police station nearby.”
