Chapter 444. I’m Not Going Anywhere With You

Apphia’s POV

“Yes, but miles from the vampires,” Gavin answers, his eyes lingering on me briefly. His face is a picture of sorrow. Nicholas growls at him, and he takes a step back. It will take him some time to not look at me and overcome his guilt and regret.

“I think we can march in now,” my brother says, clearly trying to settle the tension. I nod in agreement; I wouldn’t want to see Gavin’s blood on the ground.

Duncan approaches me and kisses my forehead, “Be care-”

“Yeah, yeah, I know, careful,” I interrupt him with a roll of my eyes. I hug him back for a heartbeat. He smiles at me and touches my cheek before leaving, Gavin following closely.

Nicholas gives all the warriors instructions and briefly explains the strategy once more. Wishing them well, we approach the estate. Twenty feet from the gates, I see a flash of black; it keeps growing and growing. Vampires stand outside the gates, watching us approach.
