Chapter 37. Travel Expectations

I hated the idea of following Liam's order to go shopping as if I were incapable of making my own decisions about my own clothes. However, he was right about my lack of options for a weekend at the beach. Marta and I had put together a fairly diverse wardrobe, but the forecast for an event like this was not among our considerations.
Reluctantly, I decided to heed Liam's suggestion and take the rest of the afternoon off to do what was necessary.
"I need your help, Marta," I said in a pleading tone. "Could you come with me?"
I tried to look desperate, but Marta raised an important question: we couldn't leave without notifying Liam.
"I'll do that right away, don't worry."
I went to the door of our "boss's" office and knocked before entering. Once inside, I noticed that Liam was on a video call and hadn't noticed my presence. I heard his condescending words about me before any chance to alert him about my presence.
