As we approached the dock, I slowed down and looked at the bright yacht, which was emitting music and laughter.
I had anticipated the peaceful waters to calm the air around me and maybe a little escape from my thoughts. Instead, I found people dancing, with drinks in their hands, and all cheering as if the world didn’t matter.
I turned abruptly to Chloe. “Wait… this is a party?”
Chloe smiled widely, pulling her hair back, like she had just been waiting for that question. “Of course, Layla. What else did you think it was?”
“I was thinking we were just… chilling. You know, sitting by the water and talking.” I frowned as I folded my arms again. “You didn’t say anything about a party.”
“That’s because you wouldn’t have gone,” she said, shrugging. “And honestly, this will be better. The music, the people, the energy—this is exactly what you need. Trust me.”
