Layla’s POV

Seeing Chloe standing next to Grace left me speechless. My heartbeat was so loud I couldn’t hear anything else. My mind was denying what my eyes were witnessing.

“You?” I whispered, my voice trembling.

Chloe gave me a thin smile, arms folded across her body as if she were waiting for this moment. “Yes, me. Are you surprised, Layla?”

In that moment, my heart sank. I had always known Chloe was unstable, but I never thought she’d ally with Grace, of all people. I began to connect the dots, and the sick feeling seemed to get worse. I should have seen it coming, but I didn’t. Now it was too late—I was trapped, and two of the people I would have least expected to be together stood in front of me.

Chloe tilted her head to the side and her stare locked firmly on me. “Don’t look so surprised, Layla.”

I swallowed deeply, my mouth dry. My mouth opened, but no sound came out.

Chloe smirked. “It’s not personal. I just want what’s mine.
