Chapter 139. The Nightmare Had Just Begun
Layla’s POV
The car ride to the party was supposed to be a short, enjoyable ride but that all changed in seconds.
The road that was clear one moment, suddenly flashed with headlights in front of me. The tires screeched, and my heart jumped to my throat. Before I could react, shadows began to move around us. Men in masks closed in on the car, surrounding us like wolves about to lock onto prey.
“What is happening?” I gasped, holding onto the seat with unsteady hands.
The guards jumped out right away to protect me, but what happened next split the night in two. Gunfire, as loud as it was merciless. I ducked down low and covered my ears, but there was no blocking out the screams and thuds.
“Get down!” a guard yelled, but his voice never finished.
Minutes later, everything fell back to silence, and when I looked up, there was nothing left—dead bodies on the ground and the scent of gun powder lingering.
