Chapter 81

Maya decided that they had to leave the house, even if it was dangerous. If they stayed in one place, they would starve.

"Let's go out for a little while," said Maya, as she led Leon out of the house.

"Okay!" said Leon, excitedly.

They left the house and started walking. Leon was excited and walked quickly, but Maya was nervous. She didn't know what would happen next.

"Mommy, I'm so hungry."

Maya looked down at the boy, who was walking ahead of her.

"I know, honey. We'll find something to eat, I promise," she said, hoping to encourage him.

They kept walking, looking for food.

They looked all day without finding anything. The sun started setting and it got dark outside. The birds that had been singing earlier stopped. The forest grew quiet.

Maya and Leon walked for a while until they came to a clearing. They saw a deer eating grass, so they decided to try to hunt it.
