I was at a loss for what to do, so I just grabbed onto her. I cradled her in my arms like the lovely being that she was. Juan and Hade had just left for the dungeons in the hopes that by killing the people who were responsible for Amber's pain, they would inflict it upon themselves. That was something I couldn't assist with; all I could do was hold her while she slept. I believe that she had retired to a more private part of her consciousness, leaving Merci in charge of the situation.
This is her way of protecting herself from potential harm.
