Jasper carried me around but it was hard to focus on anything. The world swam around me in muted gray colors. The only spot of light that has been around me, was Cai. I wanted to call out to him again, but this vampire scared me. Was he trying to kill me?

“Treasure, I let things get out of hand. I apologize.” Jasper set me down on a bed, not as fancy as the one he had tortured me on. “I don’t want to turn you, not yet. But I was overcome. When I think about you, all I want to do is devour you, to take you away from everyone else where you’ll be mine and mine alone.”

His words did not bring me comfort, instead they brought a chill to my soul. There was a simmering of madness in this one. How had it come to this? Why did he want to possess me anyway? I could barely talk, barely do anything. When he had bit me, he’d drained me so much.

“Am I going to die?” I whispered.
