She lay cuddled against my side, no longer trying to escape me. The resistance inside of her finally snapped, at least for now. I trailed my hand down her arm, kissing her shoulder.

“As much as I’d love to stay here all day with you, treasure, I need to handle the issue of us being attacked. It will happen again.”

“You promised to tell me,” she whispered.

Unfortunate, I’d thought she might have given up on finding that out. It’s not that I didn’t want to tell her, but I wanted her to remember. That memory was crystal clear to me. How could she possibly forget it. Sighing, I leaned back, pulling her against my chest.

“When you were a child you wandered onto my estate, into my garden to be precise. You saw me sitting in my gazebo, and walked right up to me.” She listened intently but no reaction flashed on her expressive features. “Do you remember what you told me?”
