What was I doing? I’d gotten a taste of that perfect moment, the kind of moment that the world stops and you just experience with your entire being, and I’d cut it short. But it was for her own good. Hopefully, when I got back and couldn’t be used against her any longer, she’d understand that. I prayed that was the case.

The demon inside was strangely silent. We’d slipped out of the mansion and made our way to our destination, a building that had been ravaged by attacks by demons if the news was to be believed.

But I knew better than to believe the stories that were spun for the innocent mortals. I didn’t have every detail on what happened to the Sacred Order laboratory. But I had enough to know that a battle had been fought. Finding the building itself turned out to be easy. The remains of it were perched on a giant hill overlooking the valley. Could this really be the site of the being that the dragon referenced? Are you sure about this?
