Chapter 18. The Pain Was Too Much
Nina POV
Unknowingly, my hands moved to clutch my gown. “Leah,” I mumbled slowly, but got no response. My head was pounding hard. I didn’t know why, but it hit me so hard.
And the next thing I felt, someone hurried toward me. From the sudden sparks, I already knew who it was. He lowered and scooped me up, carrying me in a bridal style. My hands tiredly moved up to wrap around his neck as I buried my head against his chest. I could hear the fast beating of his heart.
His upper shirt was torn, and the furs of his beast filled every part of his body. My body trembled as the soft furs made contact with my skin. He tightened his rough palms around my body, being careful not to let his sharp claws pierce my skin.
I could hear voices from behind him, though I couldn’t make out what the person was saying as Ryder walked me upstairs in his arms.
“Is William and the others back?” I whispered to myself, eager to look up but feeling too tired to move around.
