Chapter 45. Away from the Inn

“Dad and Mom will be returning by tomorrow, very early in the morning,” I said, joining Mavis in the bed.

Mavis’s body tensed slightly at the reminder of our parents’ imminent return. He paused for a moment, gently stroking my hair as he processed the news. “Early morning, huh?” He murmured, his voice tinged with a hint of worry. “We’ll need to be more careful then.”

I nestled my head against Mavis’s chest, “We’ll figure something out. I’m not ready to say goodbye just yet.”

As the hours ticked away, we clung to each other in the dark room. Mavis’s fingers traced soft patterns on my skin, his heart pounding with the bittersweet knowledge that the morning light would bring a change.
