But as time passed, I knew that our troubles would only multiply. As long as we remained in this life of crime and danger, there would always be new threats and challenges to overcome. And with each passing day, I could feel the weight of that reality pressing down on us more heavily.

It was then that Riccardo surprised me by announcing his decision to step down as boss of the family, driven by his desire to lead a simpler and less violent life. He wanted to protect me from the dangers that came with being involved in the mafia, and he was willing to sacrifice everything he had worked for to do so.
