Chapter 47. He Won’t Be in Pain
“What are you going to do?” I asked him quietly.
“I don’t know,” he replied honestly.
“But I do know one thing, I can’t sit by and watch someone get hurt if there’s something I can do to prevent it.”
For the next few days, Riccardo worked tirelessly to help his acquaintance navigate the dangerous waters of Mafia politics in Sicily.
Even though I hated every moment of it – hating having to be separated from Riccardo – I knew that there was no stopping him when he had set his mind to something.
Finally, after what felt like weeks but was only a few days, Riccardo returned home to me – exhausted but triumphant.
“It’s done,” he said simply, as he took me by the hand and led me out into the cool Scottish air.
For a moment, we stood there in silence, taking in the beauty of our surroundings. And then, unexpected, Riccardo swept me up into his arms and kissed me with such fierce passion that it took my breath away.
