Chapter 2
Faith’s POV
I didn’t realize how I got home to my unit. I also didn’t know how the conversation between Brent and Jason ended, but there was only one thing I remembered clearly in my mind.
I am the newly hired secretary of Martin Felix Fill.
My first love.
My first kiss.
My first in all aspects.
And my ex-boyfriend.
I pulled out my hair when I remembered the man I loved so much.
“Hey! Earth to Faith! Are you alright? What happened in the final interview?”
I turned to the woman who entered the door and faced me. It was Janice, one of my close friends.
“It’s a good thing you came. I need your help. I’m a mess!” Confused, I pulled my friend to sit in front of me. A look of shock could be visible on her face.
“I don’t have any money, Faith!” she said with a cute smile.
“It has nothing to do with money! I need your help.” I took out the laptop and pressed something on it. A few minutes later, I presented something to my friend.
“Oh, what’s on the Voice Global Company website?” Janice didn’t seem interested in asking me.
I tapped the ‘About the CEO’ button, and my suspicion was right. Janice’s eyes also widened when she saw and recognized the man in the picture.
“No way, Faith! That… that’s Martin, isn’t it?” She even covered her mouth when she finished speaking.
I made a series of nods. “Yeah, that’s him.”
“Oh, my God! Have you seen each other? I’m smelling something here, huh,” she said with a teasing smile on her lips.
“Janice! What are you talking about? How can I look into his eyes after what I’ve done to him?” I said.
Janice remained silent for a moment, then she said. “So what? It’s been a long time since you two saw each other. And you still love him, huh?”
“Janice! What are you thinking? My God!” I said and stood up, walking back and forth in front of my friend. “What should I do?”
“That’s easy. Apply to another company. Your problem is very easy to solve, Faith. You’re making it complicated.” Janice rolled her eyes.
“I can’t, Janice! I was so surprised when I found out that he was the CEO of VGC. I was stunned. You know what? Brent and Jason made the most of that opportunity. They made me sign the contract. My God!”
“What? Show them to me, and I’ll teach them a lesson!” Janice even hit the table. “Oops, sorry.”
“What should I do?” I asked when I held her hand. “What should I do so that when I’m with him, he won’t be able to bother me?”
“Are you kidding me, Faith? What the hell are you talking about?”
“I don’t want him to know what I really feel about him. He once loved me, I mean. I don’t want him to assume that he’s still the one I love.”
Janice laughed a little, but later she became serious again. “You can’t fool yourself. You may be able to deny it, but for how long?”
I didn’t move and thought even more. My friend had a point. It was possible that I could hide my true feelings from the man even though many years had passed, but this was the man I still loved.

The next day, just at seven o’clock in the morning, I was already in the office. Today was my first day at work. And it was also the day Martin and I would meet again.
After so many years…
It’s been five years.
It seems like yesterday…

[Flashback]
“I have to go, Martin.” I felt a tight grip on my hand, but I removed it with all my strength. “Let me go. I’m sorry,” I said despite my tears.
“No, honey. Take back what you’ve said. I don’t want us to break up. Please, I love you.”
I closed my eyes tightly when I heard those words from the man I loved the most. It was painful to see him crying. It was double the pain I felt when I witnessed it, and I myself was to blame for why he was crying.
“I’ve made up my mind. I don’t want to change anything,” I said stubbornly.
“Please, honey. You love me, don’t you? You don’t need to break up with me. I can endure a long-distance relationship as long as you don’t leave me.” He was on his knees, begging.
I shook my head as my eyes filled with tears. “I’m sorry, I-I don’t l-love you. And I never l-loved you because I just used you.” I avoided looking at Martin. I couldn’t bear to see him crumble.
“I know you’re lying,” he said, standing in front of me.
“Yes. That’s right. I lied to you! Because everything I said was a lie. I don’t really love you. That’s the truth. I only used your money so I could study. So that’s it! I don’t want you anymore, Martin! Forget me because I do not need you anymore!”
I turned my back and stepped away with heavy stomps. My heart seemed to be pounding with pain. I seemed to be stabbed repeatedly by hundreds of knives. I didn’t even look back because maybe if I did, I would take back everything I said to Martin…

I felt the warm tears that began to run down both of my cheeks. I suddenly stood up when someone cleared his throat in front of me, and only now did I notice that someone was standing in front of me. My pair of eyes clearly saw a pair of black leather shoes. Then I slowly raised my eyes.
My heart seemed to be hit hard; then, it beat very fast.
Relax, Faith.
“G-good morning, sir,” I greeted him as our eyes met.
The man was obviously surprised, but the expression on his face changed quickly. It became more serious, and the aura darkened.
