Ayana’s POV
I swallow hard and dry, hoping that it is not who I am thinking he is. It can’t be him. It definitely can’t be him.
“Mrs. Julio? I am suffering, and you know you are my only hope. What do you have left?”
That damned voice. That irritating, unnerving voice. I shoot an inquisitive glance at Mrs. Julio, and the way she is looking at me with a wicked smile that is strong enough to lit the whole city of Boston does not help in calming the strong wave of adrenaline squinting through my body.
What the hell is happening here?
As Mrs. Julio starts her way outside, her smile still permanent, my confusion and disbelief fuel me behind her, hoping that I am wrong. That man cannot be here. But the way this woman is smiling is making me even more afraid of my fears coming true.
