Chapter 40. Poisoned
Madison’s POV
Thankfully, as we had traveled through a carriage, I had observed that the pack’s residents were not far from the forest where I went to pick herbs.
Sure enough, in just a few minutes, I walked into a bustling area. People rushed past me from every direction, some cried for help, while some gathered in small groups, discussing in low voices.
I swallowed hard, tightening the cloak I had thought to use. I needed to locate the water source, but finding my way would not be easy in this mess.
Sighting a man who was rushing over, I walked to him, “Sir, can you tell me where the pack’s water source is?”
The man gave me a single glance and ignored me totally.
Yet, I did not give up.
My gaze fell on another woman, who had a small empty basin in her hand, and I tugged at her sleeves, “Ma’am, can you show me…”
“Scram!” She spat, yanking her arms free as she scrambled off. I almost lost my balance at the force of her movement
