Myles POV
I ended the call with Serena and let the phone drop onto the passenger seat of the car, and I rubbed my face with both hands. I had heard the hurt in her voice when I told her I wouldn’t be coming home until late, and it really was sad to hear that, and I hated the distance this life kept putting between us.
A tap on the window pulled me back, and Dean leaned in.
“Everything alright, boss?” he asked.
I straightened.
“Yeah,” I said, though it sounded flat.
Dean frowned.
“You don’t look alright.”
“I’m fine,” I said again. “Just thinking.”
I had still been talking to Grandpa Tobias when Dean called me. He’d sounded urgent and said there was a meeting my own men had set up because they were obviously angry about me wanting out, and he said they meant to turn on me.
